Beer makes it all better…
5 09 2011
Thanks to you all for your patience! Cleaning up after Irene has been a task, mentally, physically and emotionally.
- QUICK SHOUT OUT To all the amazing people who have volunteered anywhere and everywhere across this state – those of us hit can barely put words together to thank you for your support! You have brought muscles and tools, smiles and hugs, and of course beer! I raise my glass to you!
- ANOTHER QUICK SHOUT OUT To our friends and fellow beer geeks at the Alchemist who were also hit awfully hard by Irene – but are still cranking out cans of their yummy Heady Topper (which I’m renaming Flood Stopper since it’s helping me not go insane during this rough stretch.) Heartfelt cheers to you!
And while clean up is nowhere near done, (click here for information on how you can help) we are finally able to (sort-of) get back to work! And man, thinking about beer has never been a better way to get things off my mind! So without further ado, I present you with our current Brewers Line-Up for SIPtemberfest 2011!
*** Brewers Line-Up for SIPtemberfest 2011 ***
… with quotes found in reviews of their brews …
- The Shed - “a wonderful beer to enjoy with dinner and start off the night.”
- Trout River – “simple excellence all the way through”
- Bobcat Cafe & Brewery – “Totally recommended -even if a little dangerous!”
- Long Trail - “An incredible beer, IMO. Well worth seeking out if you are anywhere near the Vermont area.” Todd Alstrom’s review of Double Bag
- Otter Creek & Wolaver’s – “Could have had another pint which is saying something for a beer of this strength. One of the better IPAs on cask that I have ever had”
- NEW! The Perfect Pear/Vermont Beer Company - ” A good companion to dinner and well worth a try.”
- Lawson’s Finest Liquids – “Absolutely worth seeking out.”
- Woodchuck Hard Cider – “This is by far the very best cider I have had to date! “
- Zero Gravity Brewery - “Yet another well-made Zero Gravity offering. Prosit!”
- Harpoon Brewery – “I could drink this one all day!! Bring on the dog dazzzze!”
- Magic Hat Brewery - “What a great offering from Magic Hat. Totally surprised me. I love the character of this beer, especially the hints toward ginger. Truly unique. It too bucks the trend in many ways. Interesting flavours, easy drinking and brings a level of social awareness.” – Todd Alstrom’s review of Single Chair Ale
- BACK AGAIN! Switchback Brewery – “I can’t wait to have another one.”
- Guest Out-of-State Brewer: Smuttynose – “I could sip this one all night long. Paired this one with a beer braised pork roast and later with fresh baked brownies.” – Jason Alstrom’s review of S’muttonator
- NEW! VODKA!! Smugglers Notch Distillery – “[Their] Vodka combines the best of wheat and corn into a wonderfully flavorful vodka that’s just sweet enough to be pleasing, complex enough to stand up in cocktails, and smooth enough to sip neat. It’s extremely well distilled and proof again that great spirits can come from uncommon places.”

Irene doesn’t like beer
29 08 2011Sorry folks! Meg’s Events, the creators of SIPtemberfest, has been flooded.
The much anticipated brewers list will be announced soon but it might be a couple more days before we are able to even see the damage, let alone get back to work.
Thanks for your patience and we hope you are safe and dry where ever you are!

Irene likes Beer
26 08 2011
All this talk of Hurricane Irene is making me thirsty. For one thing, all those satellite images of Irene make me think of a nice frothy head on a delicious beer. Two, what else do you do when you have to hunker down and endure the weather other than drink? (Although I can’t help but notice that beer is not among the list of items in the Irene Survival Kit.)
So while tons of fun events scheduled for this Sunday are being cancelled left and right, one event is still on: the release of the First Edition of our Brewers Line Up! This list is most likely not the final one, but I know you’re all chompin’ at the bit wondering what tasty libations you’ll be able to try this year, so check back on Sunday for your first taste!
Cheers and stay safe this weekend,
m

Spot the Shot/Caption Contest #2
23 08 2011
A grilled cheese sandwich walks into a bar, and the bartender runs over and tells him to get out, they don't serve food here.
Ok! Round 1 is over!
Congratulations to Abigail W. who was the first person to correctly identified the location: the one and only Three Penny Taproom & Mike J. for the best caption. Also congrats to Dan C. who was randomly selected from all the yes/maybe RSVPs on our Facebook Invite! You each won a FREE ticket to SIPtemberfest! Just like that!
For everyone else out there, you can still get your tickets online, at Hostel Tevere in Warren, or at last week’s Spot the Shot location in Montpelier.
Or you can press your luck and try to win them again right now! Round one was so much fun, we’ve decided to jump right into Round 2!
Second verse, same as the first:
- One free ticket for the first person to correctly identify the location of this shot
- One free ticket for the best caption (entries accepted until the next contest… no longer than a week.)
Good luck and game on!
UPDATE: WE HAVE A WINNER for the SPOT THE SHOT: This was taken at The Mad Taco in Waitfield! Also known as the “Sausage Guy” from last year’s SIPtemberfest, Joey and the Mad Taco Team will be back at the SIP this year so don’t forget to bring a little cash so you can fill your belly with even more yummy deliciousness!
THERE’S STILL PLENTY OF TIME TO ENTER THE CAPTION CONTEST! Entries will be accepted until the next contest… that means at least over the weekend but probably not much later than next Wednesday… Good Luck and thanks for all the great entries!
